Walsh was established over 36 years ago. Since then, we’ve become increasingly aware  that our local communities have an enormous influence on the lives of individuals.

Walsh is based in Nelson, in East Lancashire and recognises the importance of employing local people and using local suppliers, goods and services. Throughout the last 36 years, Walsh has undertaken projects within the communities local to its base in Nelson and also local to the projects that Walsh has been involved with throughout the United Kingdom.

Of particular importance has been its annual recruitment drive within East Lancashire for apprentice electricians and mechanical engineers. This aims to bring newly qualified apprentices into the Walsh team.

When seeking to employ additional staff, our approach is to look at our existing employees and explore with them the possibility of further training and in-house support. By doing this, we can give them the opportunity to take the next step up in their careers.

Walsh has also employed former offenders and given them the support needed to reintegrate into full-time employment and training. To do this, we set up a liaison process with the former offenders’ families to ensure the rehabilitation process is a complete one.

Furthermore, we have also employed former members of the Armed Forces.

The Walsh ethos is to explore every sector of society to grow our workforce.

The team at Walsh appreciate that a whole spectrum of resources are required to support its workforce and these often extend to the immediate families of its employees. It prides itself in its approach to youth employment and works closely with local government departments and youth organisations to recruit its annual in-take of apprentices. It looks forward to inviting those at school or college to come into the office to spend some time with the staff to give them a flavour of the working day and lives at Walsh. The team at Walsh have wide and varied working and personal experiences who offer these to all sections of society.

For 2020, Walsh have set exciting targets for its team to increase its collaboration with local communities and charities. It continues to focus on local labour, local spend, work placements and apprentices.

Social Responsibility Projects

Walsh has a 36-year legacy of sponsoring individuals raising money for local and national good causes. Walsh sponsors those taking part in marathons, half marathons, sponsored walks, sponsored swims, tough mudders, sponsored silences and whatever else might come our way.

We regularly support local charity golf days, together with local fundraising events for Pendleside Hospice.

Walsh’s CSR programme has even expanded into different continents through the sponsorship of children in Kenya and Sierra Leone for the past 11 years. There, we pay school fees for children whose state education ceases at the age of 11.

Additionally, we’ve financed numerous school uniforms for Kenyan school children and supplied daily essentials such as bedding, grain, clothes, pens, books, bicycle and a goat. This is an ongoing commitment.
