St Michael’s and St John’s School, Clitheroe

Walsh responded to a plea from the local school for a complete overhaul of the school gardens. The school had neither the financial resources nor people available to restore the gardens to their former glory.

Ian and Jan Walsh visited the school to look at what was needed and the timescale that the school had in mind for completion of the project. The project included welcoming into the garden the children of the school for participation in the project and providing them with easy grow seeds to take home. The children were shown how to use gardening tools and how to plant the plants provided by Walsh.

For those children who lived in homes without gardens, it was a delightful and fascinating experience.

The project was carried out from Easter to the end of summer term. The children were astonished at the transformation of the gardens and were keen to share their gardening experiences. Some of the children started to come into the garden with small plants that they had grown at home.

The end point was a party for staff, parents and children in the garden at the end of the summer term. The former derelict gardens were transformed into a new space for the whole school and its extended community to enjoy.

The school was delighted with the results and gave Walsh a big thank you!
