Frequent heavy rain showers and an afternoon downpour failed to dampen spirits of most of the 128 competitors in the 13th annual Clitheroe Lions’ Charity Golf Day at Clitheroe Golf Club last Friday.
Although six of the teams abandoned their rounds after a cloudburst flooded some of the greens for a short time. the other 26 teams soldiered on to produce a tight finish with only three points separating the first eight places.
Leading the field with 81 points was the Walsh IBS team of Ian and Jan Walsh, Bill Baron and Ian Starkey, one point ahead of the Caracansons tean of John Whowell, Jeff Crowther, Steve Alcock and Brian Land, after a card play-off with Tracy Bentley, Emma Byrne, Gary Byrne and Stuart Rogers of Clinchplain in third.
The day raised £4,000 with £2,000 earmarked for Homestart, the Clitheroe captain’s nominated charity.
